Our main focus is the meal as a whole, where dynamics, contrasts and the structure of taste and intensity are central. The courses reflect the seasons, not only as regards available ingredients, but the produce is also inspired by the weather and nature around us.
An evening at our restaurant consists of several servings, and we recommend that you plan to stay at least 3 – 3,5 hours.
Welcome to us as guests!
The premises were between 1892 and 1982 the location of Rikshospitalets Apothek. Restaurant Ylajali has been situated here since 2002, but got its present shape and furnishings in 2012, after a comprehensive rehabilitation and restructuring, and appears today as a new restaurant with a unique concept.
In the novel Hunger by Knut Hamsun, the fantasy woman Ylajali lived at St. Olav Square 2. That is the origin of our name. History is still very much alive here, and the menu is like the first edition of Hunger from 1890. The meal is also built like a novel, with a prologue, four chapters, and an epilogue.
